Gita Gopinath Appointed as Chief Economist at the International Monetary Fund

Prof. Gita GopinathTHE HARVARD CRIMSON: Economics Professor Gita Gopinath Appointed First Woman Chief Economist of the IMF.

Professor Gita Gopinath has been appointed as the Chief Economist at the International Monetary Fund by IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde. She will be the first woman to hold the position of Economic Counsellor and Director of the IMF’s Research Department. She succeeds Maurice Obstfeld who will retire at the end of 2018. Professor Gopinath will begin her term at the IMF in January 2019 taking a two year leave from her position at Havard University.... Congratulations to Harvard Econ Graduate Andrew Garin on Winning the Upjohn Dissertation Award!

Andrew wrote the winning dissertation for 2018, "Essays on the Economics of Labor Demand and Policy Incidence." He is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research and will be an Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2019.
