Professor Xavier Gabaix seeks a highly skilled and motivated individual to work as a full-time predoctoral fellow for a period of at least one year. The preferred start date is August 1, 2024 although earlier or later start dates may be feasible, including starting this academic year.

We’re looking for two types of predoctoral fellows:

  • “Machine learning” track: you’re very skilled in machine learning, in particular large language models. Ideally, you would have a Masters in computer science, but a strong undergraduate training in computer science is a fine substitute. Knowledge of economics/finance is optional. Still, the position is particularly instructive if you want to pursue a PhD later in economics or finance, or perhaps in computer science.
  • “Macro-finance-behavioral” track: you need to be analytically very strong, and good at programming (e.g. Python). Topics will cover macro-finance, and behavioral theory. The fellow will be actively involved in all stages of research, including brainstorming, proofreading, literature reviews, data search and curation, data analysis, programming. You aspire to do a PhD in economics / finance later.

Pre-Doctoral Fellowship (Prof. Enke/Becker) -

We are looking to hire a full-time pre-doctoral fellow for the academic year 2024-2025, with the expectation that the candidate is available for a second year. The pre-doc will be based at Harvard and will closely collaborate with us on all aspects of our research in behavioral economics, cultural economics and political economy. For example, recent work in behavioral economics includes research on the complexity of economic decisions. The pre-doc’s task will include designing and implementing experiments; analyzing survey, observational and textual data; and machine learning applications to experimental data.

For examples of recent papers on these topics, please see our websites:

The position is ideally suited for students who would like to improve their research skills to prepare themselves for graduate school.
