Professor Roland Fryer Awarded the Calvó-Armengol International Prize for 2012

(October 17, 2011) Roland Fryer has been awarded the 2nd Calvó-Armengol International Prize, promoted by the Barcelona GSE, the Government of Andorra, and the Crèdit Andorrà Foundation. The prize selection committee unanimously agreed to award the Calvó-Armengol International Prize to Professor Fryer for his research analyzing race and inequality using a diverse set of theoretical, empirical, and experimental tools to shed new light on the role of race in social interactions.

The Prize includes a cash award of €30,000, and the awardee will be the scientific director of a workshop for young investigators from around the world. The second ceremony and workshop will take place in June 2012.

The Calvó-Armengol International Prize is awarded biannually to an economist or social scientist younger than 40 years of age for his or her contributions to the understanding of social structure and its implications for economic interactions. It is given in memory of Prof. Antoni Calvó-Armengol (ICREA-UAB and GSE) who passed away in the Fall of 2007 at 37 years of age.

Roland Fryer, Jr. is the Robert M. Beren Professor of Economics at Harvard University, a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research, and a former junior fellow in the Harvard Society of Fellows — one of academia’s most prestigious research posts.
