Lydia Cox

Congratulations to Lydia Cox for recieving the Padma Desai Prize in Economics. Lydia's research lies at the intersection of international trade and macroeconomics. Relying primarily on novel and detailed microdata, her work shows that taking into account the complex and multidimensional aspects of economic policy is important for understanding policy effects. For example, in one paper she shows that temporary tariffs on steel can have highly persistent impacts on steel-using industries, something that we miss when studying tariffs in static settings.

Lydia will spend next year as a Cowles Postdoctoral Fellow at Yale, and then join the economics department at the University of Wisconsin--Madison as an Assistant Professor.
