From Department Chair, Jeremy Stein:

Yesterday at the start of our placement meeting, President Bacow dropped by to surprise Oliver with the news that he has been named the Lewis P. and Linda L. Geyser University Professor. The title of University Professor is Harvard’s highest recognition for faculty members. It was created in 1935 “to honor individuals whose groundbreaking work crosses the boundaries of multiple disciplines, allowing them to pursue research at any of Harvard’s Schools.”

We had an impromptu champagne toast to mark the moment. Attached is a photo of Oliver looking not all that surprised, really.

Please join me in congratulating Oliver on this wonderful and richly deserved honor.

Best,
Jeremy
