Laura Blattner
Laura Blattner of Harvard's Political Economy and Government program was the winner this year.

"The BlackRock Applied Research Award recognizes the top five job market papers submitted by PhD candidates on a practical topic pertaining to financial markets, economics, investment management, or risk management."*Twitter

Laura’s research interests are in banking, corporate finance, and macroeconomics. Her winning paper used confidential bank loan data to study the incentives banks may have - when under tight regulatory capital - to over-extend credit to troubled firms, avoiding in the process the report of impairments.

Also joining Laura in this year's competition were: Emilio Bisetti (Tepper School of Business, Carnegie Mellon University, Financial Economics), Daniel Green (Sloane School of Management, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Finance), Yueran Ma (Harvard University, Business Economics), and Sebastien Plante (The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, Finance).
